With our new brightness sensor, we are expanding our portfolio with a powerful solution for precise light measurement. The sensor has been specially developed to meet the highest product requirements.

Why brightness sensors are becoming increasingly important

Lighting conditions change continuously throughout the day. Systems that detect and respond to these changes offer numerous advantages—both in terms of energy efficiency and comfort and automation.

Brightness sensors enable the automatic control of lighting systems, for example. Instead of lamps operating continuously at full power, lighting can be dynamically adjusted to the available environmental light. This reduces energy consumption while ensuring a pleasant lighting atmosphere.

The most important features of the new brightness sensor

  • The redesign retains the simple and unobtrusive component. This enables discreet and reliable light control
  • Thanks to the smaller lens, the sensor can be integrated almost invisibly into any application
  • A single sensor covers three different measuring ranges, which can be switched via DIP switch. You can choose between 0…1,000 lux, 0…10,000 lux, or 0…100,000 lux.
  • In addition to a flexible measuring range, the new B+B brightness sensor also offers you a variable voltage output, which can be selected between 0…5 V or 0…10 V via DIP switch.
  • The product also offers an invertible output. That’s why it is ideal for the control of analog outputs for LED controllers, for example.
  • Furthermore, this sensor offers an adjustable switching output with a semiconductor relay. This means that the output is switched when a brightness level selected by a potentiometer is exceeded.

 

Easy integration into existing systems

An important aspect during development was easy integration into existing applications and seamless interchangeability of the previous version with the current version of the brightness sensor.

Thanks to its versatility, the brightness sensor is suitable for numerous applications in a wide range of industries.

Building automation is a particularly common area of application. Here, the sensor is primarily used to automatically adjust lighting systems to the available light and to start connection controls.

Brightness sensors can also be used in smart homes to intelligently control lighting, blinds, and other systems.

In industrial automation, this sensor is often used to monitor production environments and control them depending on the lighting conditions.
