Advantages of noncontact temperature measurement

Infrared Measurement Technology from B+B

Infrared temperature measurement offers numerous advantages. It allows for easy temperature measurement even on moving, hard-to-reach, or very hot objects. Thanks to its very short measurement and response times, it is the ideal solution for complex processes. Since the measurement is contactless, it has no effect on the object being measured: the process is not disrupted, and the measurement point is neither damaged nor worn down. Compact and reliable infrared cameras and pyrometers deliver precise, state-of-the-art results.

Making the Invisible Visible

Our eyes perceive only a small portion of the electromagnetic spectrum—visible light. Most of it remains hidden from us, even though it contains a wealth of valuable information. This is because every object above absolute zero (0 K or –273.15 °C) emits temperature-dependent thermal radiation, which—at temperatures ranging from room temperature up to several hundred degrees Celsius—lies predominantly in the infrared spectrum.

This is precisely what infrared measurement technology utilizes: It detects this radiation and uses it to determine the temperature, allowing changes to be identified quickly and easily. The method is ideally suited for monitoring, evaluating, and controlling process temperatures and is also a key component of preventive maintenance for machinery and equipment.

Spot Measurement or Image Measurement?

Depending on the application, either portable or stationary measurement technology is used. A distinction is also made between spot measurement devices (pyrometers, infrared thermometers) and image measurement devices (infrared cameras).

Infrared Thermometers for Clearly Defined Measurement Points
If the critical area can be precisely located, a spot-measuring infrared thermometer is the right choice. The size of the object being measured determines the appropriate optics. This allows you to reliably monitor the temperature and, if necessary, optimize the process before quality issues arise.
Our “Made in Germany” infrared thermometers are ideal for stationary applications. The DM series delivers precise measurement results, spot marking, and high-quality accessories. With the right device selection and settings, a wide variety of materials can be measured.

Thermal Imaging Cameras for Area Measurement Tasks

If there are multiple critical areas or if the measurement point cannot be precisely pinpointed, thermal imaging cameras are the more practical and effective solution. Often, critical areas are first located using the camera’s thermal image (which can also be done automatically) and then continuously monitored with one or more stationary infrared thermometers.

B+B’s thermal imaging cameras provide precise temperature readings and are used across a wide range of industries. All models can be connected to a computer via USB, allowing you to analyze area measurements in detail and save temperature trends. The cameras are available in various configurations with selectable lenses, enabling you to tailor them perfectly to your needs.
